our history

Thank you for your interest in Wichita AMA.  We are the only organization that brings together all marketers, across all specialties, to collaborate, provide support and inspiration for one another.  Founded in 1937, the American Marketing Association is the World's Largest professional society of marketers.  AMA is headquartered out of Chicago and has over 40,000 members representing 92 countries worldwide. 

AMA is a professional association for individuals involved in the practice, teaching and study of marketing worldwide.  It is also the source that marketers turn to every day to deepen their marketing expertise, elevate their careers, and ultimately, achieve better results.

Our local Wichita Chapter was actually conceived in 1985 by a group of professional marketers with the same goal of networking and collaborating their marketing expertise.  It took two years for this founding group, working in a side room at the ol' Shocker Club on the campus of Wichita State University, to increase interest and membership to be awarded an official Charter in 1987.

Today Wichita AMA (WAMA) membership fluctuates maintaining 80 to 90 members and continuing to grow.  We attribute our growth to consistent delivery of strong programming and professional development to sustain better than 80% Membership Retention, ranking in the Top-10 of 74 active Chapters; and also receiving Special Merit recognition for the annual Chapter Excellence Awards in 2009.

Recently nationally recognized by the International AMA as "Turn Around Chapter Of The Year" (2007), the Wichita AMA Chapter holds monthly membership meetings, professional development seminars and posts other events regularly.
